I am currently putting together a small core team for a new venture. One of the things that repeatedly emerges as I do this, is that you can place people in two categories: givers and takers.

Givers are a pleasure to work with – they want to give of themselves and their ideas, they solve problems, they answer questions. They make good mentors and good employees. They are sincere.

Takers, on the other hand, are demanding, fussy and extracting. They can make good middle managers but are rarely inspirational. You will not find a mentor in a taker. They are also sincere, just not givers.

Think about yourself: are you a giver or taker?
